Why does the CLVN exist?

The CVLN exists to insure that equal justice is available for crime victims.  To accomplish this goal, the CVLN uses a dual approach: we educate criminal justice professionals about victims’ rights, and we provide direct legal representation to crime victims in criminal and appeals courts.

Armed with a full-time lawyer and 14 volunteer attorneys who have been trained in victims’ rights law, crime victims across the state are afforded legal free legal information, advice and representation to assist in the enforcement of victims’ rights or to seek a remedy when their rights are denied.  (The volunteer attorneys may also represent crime victims seeking civil legal remedies.)

CVLN also provides referrals to social service providers, mental health practitioners and other criminal justice professionals to provide further assistance for crime victims in need.

This Program is funded by the Department of Justice, Office for Victims of Crime, through the National Crime Victim Law Institute (ETC)
