To become a SANE or FNE for pediatrics, the registered nurse must take a Pediatric Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner Course comprised of 2 components; a 40 hour didactic course followed by a clinical component (criteria for the clinical component varies by instructor)
Nurses who have taken a SANE course and meet the eligibility criteria determined by the Commission for Forensic Nursing Certification, as well as take and pass an examination can become SANE-A certified (Adults and Adolescents), and SANE-P (pediatrics and adolescents) certified.

Palmetto Health Clinical Skills Training for SANE’s-2016

This is a clinical skills training for new Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANE’s) to complete the clinical requirements for SANE examinations. Interested nurses must have completed the classroom didactic for SANE nurses prior to the Clinical Skills Training. The fee for is $450 payable at the time of registration for this two day course. IAFN 40-hour Online Self-Paced Adolescent/Adult Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) Course: Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners provide specialized health and forensic care to adult and adolescent patients who have experienced sexual violence. This online program is designed for registered nurses and nurse practitioners interested in practicing in the role of SANE. Licensure will be verified. Announcing the Launch of IAFN's 43-Hour Online Pediatric/Adolescent Training Program!
IAFN's online pediatric/adolescent Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) didactic training program is now available. This course is geared toward the Registered Nurse or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse planning on practicing as a Pediatric SANE. This course meets the IAFN SANE Education Guidelines and provides 43 contact hours in nursing upon completion.
